Trump rips DeSantisâ âbad lobbying effortâ for Florida Stateâs CFP exclusion
Add Donald Trump to the list of folks who believed the Florida State Seminoles were done wrong by the College Football Playoff committee on Sunday.
Unlike other college football enthusiasts, Trump took to social media to direct blame at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“Florida State was treated very badly by the “Committee,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “They become the first Power Five team to be left out of the College Football Playoffs. Really bad lobbying effort. … Let’s blame DeSanctimonious!!!”
The Seminoles finished the season as undefeated after defeating Louisville in the ACC Championship Game. Instead, Alabama, who beat then-No. 1 Georgia 27-24 in the SEC Championship, jumped from No. 8 to No. 4 in the final CFP poll.
No. 4 Alabama will face No. 1 Michigan in the Rose Bowl in the CFP semifinal.
DeSantis did voice his displeasure with the CFP committee on Sunday, however.
“What we learned today is that you can go undefeated and win your conference championship game, but the College Football Playoff committee will ignore these results,” he posted on “X,” the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Congratulations to Florida State on an outstanding season and winning the ACC championship!”
Florida State (13-0 ACC, No. 5 CFP) will play No. 6 Georgia (12-1 SEC, No. 6 CFP) on Dec. 30 in the Orange Bowl, after both programs felt like they deserved a chance to play for the national title.
